The optical experiments on designing a telescope and compound microscope were explained and demonstrated by Agnes Pristy Ignatius Xavier and Francis Gracy Arockiaraj Shivasubramanian Gopinath explained and demonstrated the advanced experimental setup on our recent Research work FINCH. | |
We shared with them a few exciting ideas on Imaging and encouraged them to enroll as Physics students at the University of Tartu and pursue a career as Scientists.

Karl Storz's team explained the functionalities of the endoscopy system with a demonstration and took us to all the manufacturing units, and explained the functions. Thank you very much for organizing the visit for us. It was very useful. We learned a lot about endoscopy methods. The KARL STORZ team was highly enthusiastic about our research directions and collaboration and looked forward to an internship program. |

On July 7, 2022, at the Institute of Physics, University of Tartu, the Workshops were organized by the ERA chair of Computational Imaging and Processing in High Resolution (CIPHR) and the Estonian Physics Students Society (FÜS). Three workshop sessions were held including “Introduction to Holography with MATLAB.” by Prof. Vijayakumar Anand; “Photo recognition and generative adversarial network-based computational experiments” by Dr. Amudhavel. J and workshop on “Optical Interferometry” by Prof. Vijayakumar Anand and Dr. Praveen. PA. The participants obtained hands-on training in MATLAB to simulate diffraction, and interference, synthesize holograms, and design holographic optical elements for different applications., building simple Deep Learning networks for photo recognition by pattern recognition and building interferometers. | |

KARL STORZ team visited the ERA CIPHR Lab, Prof. Vijayakumar Anand presented a detailed presentation on 5D imaging system using random pinhole, Computational imaging enhancement, and holography techniques, and his research direction in manufacturing endoscopic instruments for human medicine. The KARL STORZ team was highly enthusiastic about our research directions and collaboration. |
Visit to Tartu Observatory
ERA Chair visited Tartu Observatory on 14 June 2022 together with Aravind Simon and Tiia Lillemaa. Head of the Laboratories Prof Riho Vendt introduced the development and testing of space technology, environmental testing, and optical measurements. The laboratory includes special electrostatic discharge safe areas, a clean room and an anechoic environment. All laboratories include automatic control for ambient temperature and humidity conditions. The optics specialist Ilmar Ansko, and Lead Engineer Viljo Allik showed the principal area of activity of The Tartu Observatory is the research and experimental development of natural sciences to promote science in the fields of astronomy, remote sensing, and space technology, provide research-based services in these areas, be a reliable partner in the international networks, train young scientists and extend the natural-scientific worldview. We visited the laboratories in Tartu Observatory and discussed the possibility of collaborating with a different lab in Space technology and partnering in international research and technology development. | |

METROSERT is Estonia's largest provider of metrological services, conducting research and assisting in the development of services. On June 9, 2022, the METROSERT team visited the Institute of Physics to discuss their metrological measurement tools, explore the viability of doing research and developing new measuring instruments, and collaborate on an industrial grant. When the METROSERT team visited the ERA CIPHR Lab, Prof. Vijayakumar Anand gave a detailed presentation on computational imaging and holography techniques, as well as discussed the prospect of collaborating with them. | |

School VISIT to ERA CIPHR LAB
On May 2, 2022, about 30 students from School KORVEKULA POHIKOOL in Tartu, Estonia, visited the ERA CIPHR Lab. They were taught and shown optical experiments such as the Michelson Interferometer, Fizeau Interferometer, and SAGNAC Interferometer. A presentation was also delivered to the students in order to encourage them to enroll as Physics students at the University of Tartu and pursue a career as Scientist
We visited the Department of Medical Sciences, Institute of Clinical Medicine on April 28th, 2022. Prof. Andres Salumets and Dr. Vijayachitra Modhukur, Bioinformatics Researcher, as well as Prof. Ganesh Acharya, Professor and Head of the Division of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology (CLINTEC), Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden, participated in an online discussion. We talk about how we might collaborate on Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM), Doppler ultrasound, PW Doppler, Twin-twin transfusion syndrome, Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), and Endometrial cancer. | |
On April 25th, 2022, Associate Prof. Siim Pikker, University of Tartu, Field of Natural and Exact Sciences, Institute of Physics, Associate Professor of Micro and Nanooptics, and Associate Prof. Taavi Repän, University of Tartu, Field of Natural and Exact Sciences, Institute of Physics, Associate Professor of Computational Photonics met with us to discuss working with microscopes, spectrometers, luminous measurement systems, sensor technology, and computational imaging. We toured all of the Natural and Exact Sciences laboratories. They were specifically interested in collaborating on computational imaging's experimental work and simulations.
Prof. Andres Salumets, Professor of Reproductive Medicine at the University of Tartu and Karolinska Institute, Sweden and Dr. Vijayachitra Modhukur, Bioinformatics Researcher, met with us on April 22, 2022 to discuss the possibility of collaborating on image data analysis, the Endometrial Cancer Project, and other pathological image-related projects. |
